Description-Mumbai-based Hindi rock band Prayag has released its album Udaan from Counter Culture Records as part of Ibibo.com’s Rising Rockstars series and distributed by EMI-Virgin Music. The band — Pranab Gohain (vocals), Swapnil Bhumkar (bass), Virendra G Kaith (drums), Sumit Bhattacharya (guitars) and Prasad Ruparel (guitars) — has been around for about four years and has been wowing fans and critics alike through its performances, headlining at college and cultural fests across India including the Kala Ghoda Festival (Mumbai), where the band has played two years in a row, and corporate events.
The songs on the album are a reflection of Prayag’s philosophy of sounds from distinct shores intermingling to create a new river of thought. For example, ‘Bas Karo’, the opening song, is about the terrorized Indian’s plea to the government, while the second song, ‘Langur Gaya Sheher Dekhne’, is a critique of human ‘civilisation’. ‘Kehdo Kabhi’ (track six) and ‘Kal Akeley’ (track four) are straight-ahead ballads while ‘Raaste’ (track seven) and Udaan (track five) are the band’s forays into heavier, guitar-driven rock territory.
